Wandsworth Hearing Support Service provides a comprehensive Outreach service to homes, Nurseries, Schools and Colleges within Wandsworth for deaf children and young people. Qualified, experienced and skilled Teachers of the Deaf provide a range of advice and support tailored to individual children’s needs. The level of support is agreed with families and professionals using a nationally recognised system devised by the National Sensory Impairment Partnership (NatSIP).

Genuine partnership with families is the foundation of our provision and our goal is to enable children to achieve their full potential in every aspect of their development.

We offer counselling and support to families, information about developing listening, language , communication and meeting social & emotional needs, access and training regarding specialist audiological equipment and one to one teaching for their deaf child. We support families through the EHCP process and offer guidance in making an informed choice about deciding on an appropriate educational setting at different stages in the child or young person’s life.  We contribute to Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP) through written reports and attendance at meetings and Annual Reviews at the child’s home, nursery, school or college.

We also provide support, advice and training to teachers and other professionals working with deaf children in a range of educational settings across the borough so that they are well equipped to meet these children’s needs.
