New Family Wellbeing and Counselling Support Service

If you have a child supported by Linden Lodge School, Wandsworth Hearing Support Service or Wandsworth Vision Support Service, Relate is providing free counselling to help you deal with some of the day to day problems and conflicts faced by many families caring for a child with a disability.

All families experience conflicts, problems and arguments at some time or another. Usually these can be resolved or they may blow over, but sometimes things just get worse.
This is when a Relate Counsellor can help you work things out in a way that is best for everyone.

Major changes in a family can cause stress for everyone; conflicts and disputes can damage relationships between family members, even when they are as a result of external influences. Difficulties that one member of a family is going through can have a knock-on effect on the whole family.

Relate counselling is for:

  • Parents
  • Carers/guardians
  • Parents and children
  • Siblings
  • Step Families
  • Extended family members

What will happen?

Relate Counsellors will not tell you what to do and they won’t take sides in family arguments. They will start by conducting an initial consultation which will help to establish whether counselling is appropriate for your family situation. You will then arrange appointments at a regular day and time each week. Counselling will usually last for six to eight weeks.
Your Counsellor may suggest that individual family members attend counselling sessions alone or that other family members are invited to attend some sessions to work together as a group with the Counsellor.

How much does it cost?

The service we are providing at Linden Lodge School is free for parents and carers of children attending the School or using Wandsworth Sensory Support Service (WSSS). However, delivering counselling services costs money and this service is being fully subsidised so that we can offer it to you free of charge.
Therefore if you decide to come to counselling it is important that you commit to attending regularly to make sure you gain the most from the process.
