Support for Parents

Counselling for parents

From time to time families need access to confidential support from a trained Counsellor. We have a Counsellor based at the school who is available for individual sessions on a completely confidential basis.

When families join the school community they are given details of how to contact the Counsellor directly so that the service remains confidential. There is no charge for this service.

Parents' support group

Bringing up a child with sensory impairment and complex needs can be an isolating and at times painful experience.  Parents often value sharing their experiences with other parents, and feel that through these conversations they can feel supported and truly understood at a deeper level.

We provide frequent opportunities for parents to come together to meet each other. The first of these is an evening opportunity for parents to come to the school and start to get to know each other and some of the key members of staff. We understand that many parents do not live locally and we are always looking for ways of enabling families to feel part of our community and as involved as possible.

Relate Counselling for Parents

All families experience conflicts, problems and arguments at some time or another. Usually these can be resolved or they may blow over, but sometimes things just get worse. This is when a Relate Counsellor can help you work things out in a way that is best for everyone.

Major changes in a family can cause stress for everyone; conflicts and disputes can damage relationships between family members, even when they are as a result of external influences. Difficulties that one member of a family is going through can have a knock-on effect on the whole family.

Relate Counselling is for:

  • Parents
  • Carers/guardians
  • Parents and children
  • Siblings
  • Step Families
  • Extended family members
